Wildwood Treecare Ecology Services
Further to our core tree surgery business, Wildwood Treecare provides a range of ecology services to our domestic and commercial clients as well as ecology consultancies. These range from assisting with monitoring of protected species to installation of bat boxes and bespoke habitat creation.

Bat Surveying
Wildwood Treecare provides technical climbing assistance to ecologists carrying out potential roost feature (PRF) surveys in trees. This reduces survey effort and improves efficiency for the consultancies we support.
Our NPTC qualified operatives have a wealth of tree climbing experience, which enables them to access the canopy with deftness and speed. They then assist the ecologist in accessing PRFs, or inspect entire trees independently, reporting findings directly to the ecologist on site. This, however, is only appropriate under the close supervision of a suitably licensed ecologist and we work closely with consultancies to ensure that all regulations and guidance are adhered to.
Potential roost features are, by their nature, frequently found in hazardous trees that may contain major dead wood, hanging branches and obviously, hollows. Such trees can be challenging to assess for structural stability and present an increased risk to the climber. A high level of proficiency that can only be gained through years of experience is essential to navigate these trees safely and effectively. By providing exactly this to our clients, we improve the safety of climbing operations, increase productivity and enable them to deploy their own expertise where it is the most valuable.
We at Wildwood Treecare are continuing to invest in upskilling our workforce with bat specific training provided to all employees. Some members of our team are even working towards their own Level 1 bat licenses to further the assistance we can provide to ecologists working in this space.
Bird and Bat Box Installation
Working at height to install bird boxes, bat boxes or monitoring equipment presents a number of challenges regarding health and safety compliance. With extensive experience in this field and a robust risk assessment process, Wildwood Treecare is perfectly placed to assist with aerial works, increasing operational efficiency and reducing H&S exposure for our clients.
Habitat Creation
When projects allow, we at Wildwood Treecare take great pride in creating habitat for a variety of species through coronet cuts and other veteranisation techniques. Leveraging our creativity in a way that improves ecological outcomes is immensely satisfying and has yielded some fantastic creations. We are excited to offer our expertise in this area as a service to ecology consultancies where our unique skillset could be of use within wider habitat creation schemes.
At Wildwood Treecare, we understand that, while it may be our human client that pays our invoice, our duty of care extends to the trees in which we work, other local flora and fauna as well as the wider environment. As such, we seek to minimise our impact across all that we do and create some ecological gain at every opportunity.
